Your gut or your entire digestive system is the master behind breaking down the food you take in and sending the nutrients to the bloodstream. Aside from being the body’s center of nutrient absorption, it is also the body’s front line of defense against any type of disease, said Dr. Lisa Ganjhu of the New York University Langone Medical Center. “Our gut plays a major role, not only in our gastrointestinal health, but in the health and well-being of the entire body,” she said.
