4 ways to lose your weight after pregnancy
By Jaquiline Go Laruan
Being pregnant gives some women one significant achievement in life by having another life to love, care for, and nurture.
But along with this exciting and big life’s milestone are changes in the women’s physical, psychological, and social well-being, and here are when the challenge comes in. The physical change is more evident and greatly affects the thinking and social mood of the new mother.
The most common body change is getting fat during and after pregnancy where the primary causes are overeating and inactivity. Some promised themselves to get back in shape after giving birth but it takes a very strong will power to bring back that sexy or fit body.
Jane Abas, a 39-year-old mother of two, used to weigh 77 kilos before getting pregnant, but during the third trimester, she started gaining weight up to 90 kilos and has retained that weight even after one year of giving birth.
While she did not mind not losing weight right away because her plan was to do it seriously after another child, she has managed to lose 3 kilos in three years’ time. She has two boys now and weighs 87 kilos.
Meanwhile, Aileen Cruz, a 32-year-old mother of one, weighs 69 kilos at 5 feet flat, but she has managed to improve her body and maintain her current 48 kilos weight through willpower.
Aileen says that along with the will are the following tips to help mothers lose that pregnancy weight:
1 MOVE AROUND AND DON’T BE IDLE.
Even though you do not have a regular exercise routine, doing household chores for more than two hours, walking for more than 30 minutes a day, climbing up and down the stairs for 10 minute per day, or playing with your kid are great forms of exercises. It is like hitting more than two birds in one stone.
2 REMOVE YOUR FAVOURITE HIGH-CALORIE SNACKS FROM YOUR GROCERY LIST.
Quit keeping them in your house so you won’t be tempted. The most that you can do about favourite snacking is buy a single, small serving of that and keep more healthy snacks.
3 COUNT YOUR CALORIES.
Maintain the appropriate daily calorie count intake as prescribed by a nutritionist. You can install the daily calorie count application on your cell phone to watch your calorie intake. Following it religiously will definitely improve your body weight.
4 DO NOT BUY NEW CLOTHES YET.
Make your previous size clothes your motivation to get back to it. Buy new clothes as a reward for every pound or inch you lose. How’s that?
5 EAT WHEN YOU’RE REALLY HUNGRY.
You do not have to eat dinner just because the clock says it is 7 p.m. It also helps when you complete your final meal early like 6 p.m. before night time. As the day light ends, your activity lessens and your metabolism becomes slower, so eating at night contributes to your weight gain.
We can give you countless tips on how to lose the pregnancy weight, but at the end of the day, you can only help yourself achieve your ideal weight after the baby.
